SwimEQ – a practical workshop to keep your head in the water

Greek philosopher Plato said ‘human behavior flows from three main sources; desire emotion and knowledge’. Our behavior in the water is no exception. Learning to swim, learning new skills, and racing are all impacted by motivation, emotions, and knowledge.

SwimEQ workshops are designed to enhance all three areas of your swim behavior in a small group setting. Learn how motivation, emotional intelligence and swim skills converge to maximize your potential in the water.

Workshop Takeaways

• Improve confidence in open water, learn to limit those moments of anxiety
• Improve comfort in the water when learning swim skills
• Improve race performance, limit the impact of poorly managed emotions during a race
• Improve pre-race or pre-swim management of emotions

• Small groups of up to 3, in a private setting
• Land based activities and in water skill sessions
• Take away a copy of the newly released SwimEQ book by Coach Dinah

CLINIC DESCRIPTION:

This clinic will transform your swimming by employing the Total Immersion skill sequence of Balance-Streamline-Propel to improve your swim thinking and movement efficiency. You will learn to integrate focal points from the skill sequence into whole stroke freestyle.

Areas to be addressed (time permitting) include:

• Video analysis of your stroke

• Balance-Streamline-Propel

Learn how to keep the body stable by optimizing linear and lateral balance. Learn how to keep the water stable by maximizing passive and active streamline. Learn to propel forward via directing ‘available’ forces, rather than generating muscular forces. Learn to connect your body mass to the force of gravity in rhythmic weight shifts for ‘free’ power.

• Breathing

Breath easy by learning to integrate a seamless breath into your efficient freestyle.

PLEASE BRING:

Notepad and USB flash drive to take home your swim videos. Swim suit(s), goggles, and a few towels. We recommend male students wear Speedo-type briefs or triathlon shorts to reduce drag.

ADVANCED SKILL CLINIC:

This advanced skill clinic is recommended for people who have taken previous Total Immersion instruction. If you are new to Total Immersion, we recommend our introductory clinic.
